Maria Robledo

Maria Robledo photographs the sumptuous and the divine. Her magnetic images of food jewelry, and still lifes have captivated longtime collaborators Ralph Lauren, Bergdorf Goodman, and Martha Stewart.

Originally from Columbia, Robledo came to New York to attend The School of Visual Arts, where she fell in love with photography’s tactile nature and delighted in the magic of an image appearing on paper in the darkroom. She enjoyed the pure physicality of photography as well, moving and arranging everyday objects to create an exquisite picture.

Robledo found success quickly after dropping off her book upon graduation, and a quick succession of clients followed, including Tommy Hilfiger, Burberry, Vera Wang, Saks Fifth Avenue and Waterworks.

Robledo has kept on her toes by studying the masters — Penn, Avedon, Steiglitz, and Kertesz are major influences, and you can see why—Robledo finds classic and staggering beauty in the bed of a rose, or the curve of a vase. Her love of photography is about shapes and color and process, and she is still committed to shooting film whenever possible.

One of Robledo’s most memorable projects was for Calder Jewelry, with whom she worked on a inspiring book project which was later chosen to be part of a traveling show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2008.  Other book projects include “Staff Meals from Chanterelle,” “A New Way to Cook,” “Recipes,” Improvisational Cook,” and “Chanterelle.”

When not working, Robledo travels and spends time with her two daughters, who are almost grown. They’ve visited South America, Russia, and India, but the most divine place of all for her is still the family dinner table.
